El regreso a "Facebook OG" es una gran prioridad para Meta este año."

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a renewed focus on "original Facebook" in 2023. Despite its massive user base, Facebook has lost cultural influence compared to other platforms. Zuckerberg aims to increase its impact by returning to core values and potentially prioritizing product development over immediate financial gains. He hinted at changes that could resemble the platform's early days, but specific details remain unclear. This shift comes amidst declining interest in social media among some users, with many citing a decline in quality and relevance as reasons for leaving platforms like Facebook.

Yesterday, Meta reported its quarterly earnings and Zuckerberg outlined, amidst updates on Threads, Instagram, and yes, the metaverse, an interesting new priority for this year: Back to "original Facebook".

Zuckerberg is Focusing on "OG Facebook" This Year

Facebook, by any rational measure, is a massive success for Meta. It has billions of active users – billions.

Yet, in the current fragmented social media ecosystem, Facebook feels like an afterthought for many.

But it sounds like Zuckerberg wants to change that this year.

During Meta's earnings report, the CEO stated:

Facebook is used by more than 3 billion monthly active users and we are focused on increasing its cultural influence. I am looking forward to returning to the original Facebook values this year.

This comment about “OG [Original] Facebook” was initially made without further explanation. Later in the conversation, the CEO was asked to share more details.

According to Meta's official transcript, he stated:

I think there are many ways to make it culturally much more influential than it is today. And I think that’s a fun and interesting goal that will lead our product development in interesting directions that we maybe haven’t been as focused on in recent years.

So, I don’t know if I have much more specific than that, other than that this is going to be one of my focus areas this year. I mean, I think it’s an investment area and something I’m going to invest time in.

Please give me the English text with the HTML tags that you would like me to translate.

I will then translate it for you into German.

But overall, I’m really excited about doing some cool things here … when we start releasing … I think a lot of this will return to how Facebook was originally used. I think that will be fun.

Zuckerberg even hinted that some of the changes could lead to financial profits being sacrificed in favor of improving the product. He said, “It could mean that we make short-term compromises to focus on certain product areas that we drive forward instead of primarily focusing on maximizing business results in the near future.”

I deactivated my Facebook account over a decade ago. A few years ago, I deleted all my Instagram posts. Last year, it finally dawned on me that there was nothing there that interested me at all, and I closed that account too. I've never used WhatsApp and never will. Meta produces nothing that interests me, and Zucker's attempt to go back to a time when he felt "cool" won't change that. On a larger scale, I know my presence on social media is decreasing. I rarely post on the two accounts I still have, and I'm thinking about closing one of them. It was fun while it lasted, but it's not real social contact. Show all comments

I remember the "original Facebook" days, and it was a lot of fun. Over the years, however, Facebook has become significantly less appealing to me personally.

Some attribute Facebook's cultural decline to the fact that it's no longer "cool" – a shift often attributed to parents and grandparents. For myself, I stopped using Facebook because the product itself has lost quality. To increase user engagement, my Facebook feed suddenly started showing me all sorts of information that didn't interest me at all – for example, every random "Like" one of my friends gave.

I would be happy if the original Facebook came back, so I'm curious to see what Meta has come up with.
