Type is a minimalist note-taking app for your Mac that allows you to easily capture and organize notes – all with a simple keyboard shortcut. It's the best way to quickly jot something down without any possible abstraction.

How it works

Type works similarly to Spotlight, as it's a text field that appears when you press a specific key combination. I've mapped it to Alt-Spacebar, which gives it easy accessibility. Once the window is open, you can create a new note and write any content into this text field.

If you're in a meeting and only want to make short notes, this is perfect for you. It adds a timestamp to your thoughts so you can easily find the details later.

You can divide different events into separate notes, making it easier to organize them. You can also simply have one note and write everything there if that's what you prefer. Type stores your notes locally as text files on your Mac, which is privacy-friendly and easy to track. Your data is not trapped in the app.

All Features

Type can import notes from other apps like Obsidian, allowing users to build upon them. You can also customize your date format, switch between plain text and Markdown, and separate a note of type – helping you organize your interface without actually deleting the information.

The developers also want to add the option to keep the app open always if keyboard shortcuts are not your preference. They will soon be able to search for and export notes.
