System76s neue Meerkat-Mini-PC bleibt für Linux optimiert.

The computers from System76 are great and were specifically developed for Linux, although they can sometimes be expensive. Now, the company is updating its excellent Meerkat Mini-Mini-PC with new Intel CPUs.
System76 has recently announced an update to its Meerkat Mini PC and it looks good. The new Meerkat is configurable with up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor, which means a significant jump from the previous generation. System76 claims this has 16 cores compared to the last model (controlled by 13th Generation Intel Core chips), so it performs much better in terms of pure performance. System76 also says we have a 62% increase in RAM speed—no details are given about the press release, but the previous model had DDR4-3200 RAM and we have DDR5-5600 here, which is the reason.
For graphics, integrated Intel Arc graphics are built into the newer Intel Core CPUs. Although they are essentially integrated graphics, they carry the Arc branding and should likely be sufficient for light games. This computer is not optimized for gaming, so it should be pretty good for daily use. System76 also introduces its own open firmware with the new Meerkat. Motivated by coreboot, this firmware solution offers faster boot times and improved security. And of course, it's open source, so you can see exactly what happens behind the scenes if you want.
The System76 Meerkat Mini costs $799, which is a bit more expensive than the previous model when considering that it was significantly cheaper. Nevertheless, with all these improvements and the previous model already being several years old, it might be worth it. Visit System76's website on January 29th.
