Last year, watchOS added support for changing exercise goals and standing goals. But it was only in recent months, with watchOS 11, that two additional important changes were made to the activity rings.

You can now schedule vacation and sick days. And your activity rings can have different goals for different days of the week.
watchOS 11 supports pausing your activity rings for one or more days, so missing a closure on these days does not break your streak.
You can adjust your daily goals so that, for example, you need to move more on weekdays and be less active on weekends.
Here are two reasons why these changes to the Apple Watch can help you achieve your health goals:

- Goals must seem realistic or we will quickly give up.

I have had the longest streak of closing my Move ring with 285 days.
It was a busy season, but it suddenly fell apart when I got COVID and could barely get out of bed.
The loss of my continuous series and the time I knew I would take to set a new record were very demotivating for me. I had quickly gotten used to closing my bands every day.
The ability to pause my goals would have been immensely helpful and brought me back on track much earlier.
I also often had trouble maintaining the consistency of my bands because the Apple Watch treated each day equally in the past. It never felt right to me that I should still achieve my standard goal if I had a big movement day.
Now I can prepare for a big workout on Friday, for example, before relaxing over the weekend. And my Apple Watch will not shame me for it.
