The AirPods Pro 3 will be released this year. Even if Apple continues to improve the AirPods Pro 2 with new software features, a hardware successor is on the horizon soon. The AirPods Pro 3 are expected to arrive in September with the iPhone 17, here are three new features we are looking forward to.

New Generation of IC H3

According to Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, AirPods Pro 3 will be equipped with a new H3 chip.

Sometimes, a new Apple processor offers modest improvements. We have observed this with the M chips of Mac and iPad, the A chips of iPhone, as well as even the S chips of the Apple Watch.

But so far, with the H chips of the AirPods, updates have been significant.

This is certainly not due to the extended development time between updates. The H1 chip of the AirPods Pro lasted three years before the AirPods Pro 2 presented the H2 chip. And now, when the AirPods Pro 3 arrive, there will still be a three-year delay for the H3 chip.

Here is how Apple explained the capabilities of the H2 when the AirPods Pro 2 were released:

Wild Card: New Health Feature(s)

I include this as a freebie because there is less certainty about it, but Gurman recently reported that three or more health features are in development for future AirPods models:

• Heart rate monitoring, similar to what the Apple Watch offers
• Temperature detection
• New sensors allowing a series of physiological measurements

Among this list, Gurman estimates that heart rate monitoring should be ready for shipment with AirPods Pro 3.

However, due to additional attention, care and even regulatory approvals that tend to accompany health-related features, it could potentially be delayed.

Features of the AirPods Pro 3: Summary

The AirPods Pro 2 are one of the best products from Apple, and the three years between updates only strengthen the anticipation of their successor. Although I am satisfied with my AirPods Pro 2, there is no doubt that the AirPods Pro 3 will be an instant purchase for me.
