The offer of Apple's AirPods is stronger than ever after the launch of the AirPods 4, which include many features previously exclusive to the AirPods Pro 2. But for me personally, there are still three main exclusive features of the Pro that make the AirPods worth a higher upgrade price.

Adding better noise control up to twice as much

This is a big hit for me. Although the high-end model of AirPods 4 includes active noise cancellation (ANC), it is about half as powerful as what is found in the AirPods Pro 2.

I wear my AirPods Pro 2 all day at work and ANC is activated almost throughout this period.

The improved ANC was one of the major features that convinced me to switch from original AirPods Pro to AirPods Pro 2. And I am impatient for an even more powerful noise reduction experience with AirPods Pro 3.

In other words, I do not want to go back to a less performant ANC feature with the AirPods 4.

Auditory health-related features

iOS 18.1 has given the AirPods Pro 2 three new powerful features centered on auditory health:

• Listening test
• Ear amplifier
• Noise protection

According to my trial results, I have almost no hearing loss at this stage. Otherwise, the earpiece would be particularly important for me.

Regardless, having the ear protection feature always active could help prevent this type of loss in the future. And I would never know the state of my ears if it were not for Apple's test.

However, whether or not your needs or lack of need for AirPods Pro 2's auditory health features are a major advantage over AirPods 4 for many users.

Better battery life

The AirPods Pro 2 offer up to 6 hours of listening per charge. The AirPods 4 provide 5 hours instead.

A 20% battery holder is particularly useful when you use the AirPods as much as I do. I almost never hear the low battery indicator with my AirPods Pro 2, but I suspect it would be a more frequent problem with a less manageable battery.

Summary of AirPods Pro features

By comparing the selling price of $249 for the AirPods Pro 2 to $179 for the high-end AirPods 4, I am very satisfied with adding the additional $80 for the exclusive Pro features.

If you can afford to buy the AirPods Pro 2 for less than $189 (the current price on Amazon), the Apple professional model becomes even more obvious.
