These great AirTag 2 features will make you want an update.

According to Bloomberg, Apple is working on a second generation of its popular and affordable object tracker, AirTag, which debuted in 2021. Here's what we expect Apple to deliver with AirTag 2 this year.
Updates
In recent weeks, in connection with Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, AirTag 2 has "progress in the manufacturing tests", and three key updates to look forward to:
- Better range
- Improved battery life
- Enhanced privacy respect
Apple will soon announce a new ultralong-lasting chip in the next AirTag model, allowing a search radius up to three times larger with precise location. This means you can track your AirTags from 30-90 meters away, compared to the current 10-30 meters. A new wireless radio module could also improve location accuracy in less densely populated areas.
Previously, people used AirTags for tracking, and some even modified AirTags to completely disable the built-in speaker, making it more difficult for Apple to let targeted users know there is an AirTag nearby. Improvements in anti-tracking features should help targeted users find their AirTags.
Release Date
The AirTag 2 is expected to be released mid-2025, according to Bloomberg:
Apple is working on a new AirTag - codenamed B589 - for its mid-year release.
In the meantime, if you are considering buying the latest generation of AirTags, they are currently on promotion. A single AirTag costs $23 and a box of four for $69.99. With the box of four, that's about $18 per AirTag!
