AMD has just revealed the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 graphics cards.

A few years after the last generation of graphics cards. Intel launched the ball with its second-generation Arc cards, which means it's time for NVIDIA and AMD to make a move themselves. AMD reveals its Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 card lineups, starting with the Radeon RX 9070 and Radeon RX 9070 XT.

AMD just revealed the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 cards at CES 2025. These are the first graphics cards to use the RDNA 4 architecture. According to AMD, the RDNA 4 architecture is a fundamental redesign offering a "big boost in artificial intelligence," optimized compute units, better ray tracing performance, and improved multimedia encoding quality. The RDNA 4 graphics cards will also be equipped with the AMD AI Accelerator, generated ray tracing accelerators, and the generated radiance engine.

The most remarkable part of this announcement, at least for now, is the introduction of FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 (FSR 4), a new generation of AMD's upscaling and frame generation technology. Motivated by machine learning and specifically designed for the RDNA 4 AI hardware, FSR 4 will be exclusively available to the RX 9070 series at launch and supported in games with integrated FSR 3.1.

Sorry, this announcement is unnecessarily lacking in details. Apart from Matt Booty taking the stage to confirm that the new Call of Duty game will include FSR 4, there was only one mention of FSR 4, and the new RDNA 4 cards were never mentioned during the main presentation. We know that FSR 4 uses dedicated AI accelerators similar to DLSS (making it a product exclusive for RDNA 4 cards), but we don't know exactly in what other ways FSR 4 is better than FSR 3, or how it compares to its predecessor or competitors like DLSS. We also have no information on how the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 compare to other cards. They might be comparable to the NVIDIA RTX 4070/4070 Ti, in particular because AMD seems to have abandoned high-end cards.

The RDNA 4 cards are scheduled for a Q1 2025 release and should be available on shelves at graphics stores from various third-party manufacturers over the next few weeks, so keep an eye on your preferred GPU brand.
