According to Bloomberg, Apple is working on a second version of its popular and affordable object tracker, the AirTag, which was launched in 2021. Here's what we expect from Apple with AirTag 2.

In a recent Bloomberg report on AirTag 2 by Mark Gurman, it is mentioned that the "progress of manufacturing trials," and we can expect three major updates:

• Better adapted to a wide range of uses
• Improvement of the wireless module
• More focus on privacy

Apple will probably announce a new ultra-band processor in the next generation of AirTag, allowing for maximum tricorder distance with precise location. This means you can track your AirTags up to 30-90 meters away, compared to only 10-30 meters with the current version. A new wireless module could also improve location accuracy in less densely populated areas.

In the past, people have used AirTags for tracking and some even modified the AirTags to completely disable the integrated speaker, making it more difficult for Apple to alert targeted users if they are near an AirTag. Improvements to anti-tracking features should help targeted users locate their AirTags.

Release Date

The AirTag 2 is expected to be released in mid-2025, according to Bloomberg:

Apple is working on a new AirTag - codenamed B589 - for its launch in the middle of next year.
