Although the next major generation of CarPlay is still not available, Apple currently claims on its website that the first models will arrive in 2024. But now, a CarPlay 2 widget interface has leaked into new images and offered a preview of Apple's ongoing development.

The leaked images of CarPlay 2 show a familiar Apple user interface.

Today, in an article on X, Aaron Perris shares his recent discovery of the CarPlay 2 widget interface. He has published four images in total.

The revealed images were found in the EU database, exactly where we saw previous CarPlay 2 resources published.

The displayed widgets include:

• Time widget to display the time for a city
• Weather widget for Forecast
• Calendar widget to highlight your next event
• Navigation and content display widget
• An independent Now Playing breakfast bar

As illustrated below, CarPlay 2 also includes the familiar app column on the left side of the screen, just like the existing CarPlay interface.

This CarPlay 2 interface resembles the standard user interface of widgets currently available on iOS, iPadOS and macOS. It's great because it's a familiar system for Apple users.

However, familiarity raises the question of why custom widgets like this couldn't be added to the existing version of CarPlay. While CarPlay 2 continues to be absent, I see many users beginning to wonder if Apple might have simply concentrated its efforts on improving the existing system even more.
