The world of robots is undergoing its own revolution as everyone focuses on chatbots, which means you might be surprised in a few years when autonomous construction machines start building structures in your neighborhood. Here are some of the coolest examples.

4 HK1500 par SuperDroid

Robots SuperDroid

Many construction jobs consist of moving equipment or tools from one work site to another, often across difficult terrain. The HK1500 may seem like a too-big RC car, but this six-wheeled robot is equipped with a lot of technology. It can be controlled directly or work autonomously. There are many sensor options depending on the level of autonomy needed and where it needs to operate.

The robot has an internal storage compartment as well as rails where custom charge options can be mounted. It has a charge capacity exceeding 200 pounds and can even pull charges if necessary. SuperDroid also claims that the HK1500 can be configured for site safety, but I'm sure a significant number of human construction workers would not want the physical burden of transporting their equipment on rough terrain supported by this adorable little buggy.

Built Robotics has transformed several traditional construction vehicles into fully autonomous systems. Using its technology, these machines can now dig trenches and install solar panels (the deep steel poles necessary to mount solar panels) with minimal or no human intervention. In this video, you can see one of their excavators in action.

What's really cool about this solution is that the company offers to transform existing construction equipment into robots. So, businesses don't need to replace expensive equipment they've already invested in; they can simply update it to 21st-century technological standards.

2 Robots de construction rapide Hadrian X

In a reference certainly cheeky to the Great Wall of Hadrian, the Hadrian X is a bricklaying robot. This system has been in public view for several years, but at the beginning of 2024, it completed its first exterior construction, and by the end of 2024, the robot set a record "house built in one day," as you can see in this promotional video.

This system knows exactly how many bricks it needs because it uses a CAD model as a reference. It also doesn't use traditional mortar but rather a construction adhesive that sticks each brick to the next. Place this robot near the site, and it will continue non-stop to pick up, place, and secure each brick until the exterior walls of the house are completed. Of course, it's just a small part of building a house, but imagine how affordable and numerous houses could be if we had similar systems for different phases and aspects of construction.

1 Robotique Industrielle SAM100

The SAM or Masonis semi-automated is also a bricklaying system, but unlike the Hadrian X, this robot is designed to work alongside human construction workers. The SAM actually exists for more than eight years, so there's a good chance it already works somewhere near you or helped assemble a building you've used or seen.

The SAM is mainly designed to reduce physical stress on masons, and I like the idea presented by Construction Robotics that it would allow older and experienced masons to continue working for much longer. According to the company, SAM can increase productivity three to five times and free masons to focus on quality control instead of actual bricklaying work.

This is just a small preview of what's coming and what's already happening. Around the world, we have housing supply problems, rising living costs, and a foreseeable shortage of construction workers that must be combated to fill the US housing deficit. I think robots have great potential to help more people find and afford a place to live, which is quite exciting!

Soon, we might see robots in every aspect of life, farming our food, treating patients at hospitals, or just being awesome.
