As published by GamesBeat, a recent survey by the Game Developers Conference was conducted to measure developer engagement with Apple's new spatial computing platform.

The data indicates significant growth ahead. Here’s what it shows:

Although only 8% of VR/AR developers currently work on games for the Apple Vision OS, the platform seems determined to strengthen its presence. About one-fifth (18%) of respondents say they will be working on games on the platform next, and a quarter are interested in Apple's VR headset.

Each of these three data points is interesting in their own way.

Firstly, it’s somewhat surprising that 8% of VR/AR game developers currently work on a visionOS project. We haven’t seen much of their efforts until now, as Vision Pro gaming options were limited up to this point. This number is encouraging to hear.

Secondly, the fact that 18% of respondents confirm they will be working on their next game for the Vision Pro shows how close we should see growth soon.

The last question is particularly relevant, especially when comparing interest in visionOS to other platforms.

In particular, 26% of respondents indicated high interest in visionOS as a game developer, compared to only 25% for PlayStation VR2—a platform that could soon bolster Apple’s efforts in the Vision Pro space.

The survey involved more than 3,000 game developers in total, an important group that offers a solid view of what creatives in the gaming community are preparing.
