Type is a minimalist note-taking application for your Mac, allowing you to easily capture and organize notes – all while using a simple keyboard shortcut. It's the best way to quickly note something without any potential distractions.

How it works

Type works similarly to Spotlight, in that it's a text box that appears when you type a certain combination of keys. I personally mapped mine to alt-space, making it easily accessible. Once the window is open, you can create a new note and write anything in this text box as you see fit.

If you're in a meeting and just want to quickly jot down some points, it works perfectly for that. It automatically records the exact time of your thoughts with each entry, making it easy for you to remember the details.

You can also separate different events into different notes, which makes organization easier. You can also simply have one note where you insert everything, if that's your style. Type stores your notes in local text files on your Mac, keeping them private and easy to follow. Your data is not locked inside the application.

All Features

Type can import notes from other applications, like Obsidian, allowing users to add them. You can also customize the date format, switch between plain text and markdown, and detach a note from Type – which allows you to clean up your interface without actually deleting these pieces of information.

The developers also intend to add the option to keep the application open always, in case keyboard shortcuts don't suit you. You can also quickly search for notes and export them.
