Last month, the Wall Street Journal reported that the iPhone 17 Air will cost less than the Pro models, casting doubt on the old belief that the new ultra-thin smartphone would still be more expensive than the Pro Max models. In this case, the phone makes even more sense.

News on Pricing

In a new report, The Wall Street Journal said the following about the long-awaited iPhone 17 Air:

Starting next year, Apple plans to introduce an iPhone thinner than the current models' approximate profile of 8 millimeters, sources familiar with the company's plans have announced. The model is designed to be cheaper than the Pro models, with a simplified camera system to reduce costs.

This goes against previously communicated information. A month ago, when The Information revealed initial details about the device, they stated:

The new slim iPhone could be launched in parallel with the 2025-proposed iPhone 17, according to three people with direct knowledge and two other project insiders. They indicated that it could be sold at a price higher than the current most expensive iPhone, the Pro Max, which starts at $1,200.

Why It Matters

Of course, the fact that the Pro Max costs more suggests a base price of at least $1,199 – perhaps even up to $1,299. For a thinner phone with fewer features, reduced battery life, and a single camera. This didn't seem very useful. Of course, it would have been beautiful to see, and potentially laid the groundwork for future iPhones to be thinner, but this wouldn't make sense to buy.

More recently, we even heard that the iPhone 17 Air won't have a second speaker, relying solely on the earpiece to output audio. With so many compromises, it would never really make sense to pay such an additional price.

However, if new reports live up to their claims, we are now waiting for a cheaper model than the Pros. It's not clear exactly what this means, as there could potentially be a price increase with the iPhone 17 Pro, but overall, the iPhone 17 Air should cost less than $1,000. If there is no price increase on the iPhone 17 Pro, then the 17 Air could potentially be as low as $899, taking the same price line as the iPhone 16 Plus.

This radically changes the value proposition at the bottom end, making the new model up to $400 cheaper than we initially thought.

Best answer by BarelyLucid Aimé par 7 personnes Le téléphone remplacer le Plus coûtera moins que le Pro. Développement surprenant. Voir tous les commentaires Of course, you would always lose battery life and a second camera compared to the iPhone 16 Plus, and you would also miss out on a second speaker. However, you would receive a cool, bright, and much thinner phone – all for the same price you paid last year. Apple must be counting on what attracts users. This will be the first iPhone in years to have an appearance really different from the previous model.

Moreover, unlike the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, the base models of the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will be equipped with ProMotion 120Hz screens, making the product even more attractive for tech enthusiasts.
