Beyond the iPhone 17 Air, would you prefer a phone without a port to be thinner? [Survey]

Beyond the iPhone 17 Air, would you prefer a phone without a port to be thinner? [Survey]

We expect the iPhone 17 Air to be the thinnest Apple phone ever made, but with the thickness of phones now constrained by the USB-C port, would you go without a port to get an even thinner iPhone?

The Chinese manufacturer of Android laptops Oppo has sparked debate about an ultrathin model and says that the height of the USB-C port prevents phones from becoming thinner...

iPhone 17 Air

We learned last year that the iPhone 17 Air would be Apple's thinnest phone.

A reduction of 2 mm compared to the 16 Pro was equivalent to about a 25% thinner phone - slightly more than 25% compared to Pro models, and slightly less with basic models. This corresponds to the previous expectation of an device whose total thickness is close to 6 mm.

This received a star when Ming-Chi Kuo added the note that "the thinnest part" would be 5.5 mm. This led to speculation about a trapezoidal shape, but the more likely bet here is a refresh of camera module type.

Oppo says USB-C is now the limit

OPPO promises a new Android Find N5 (via Daring Fireball). This particular example is foldable, adding momentum to the need to make the screen as thin as possible.

A photo against the iPhone 16 shows how close Oppo has become to the limits of thickness while still keeping a USB-C port.

The slimming device is not the limit of the Find N5, but that of the power port.

Rumors about an iPhone without a port

We have heard suggestions for several years that Apple is on the verge of having an iPhone without a port, relying solely on wireless charging for energy and AirDrop for data.
