The CEO of Sonos, Patrick Spence, has been replaced in his position and is leaving the company. His temporary CEO says it's because the company "disappointed too many people".

Customers had asked Spence to be fired since the disastrous launch of a new app that left them facing connectivity issues and broken features...

An Overview of Sonos Chaos

In May, Sonos launched its first enterprise headsets, the Ace, designed to compete with AirPods Max. The app had to be updated to support these new headsets, and the company decided to take this opportunity for a complete overhaul, launching an entirely new app just before the launch.

This did not go well. Customers were disappointed by the company that removed many beloved features and caused problems for many older Sonos owners, leading to connectivity issues and slowness. Due to Sonos's fundamental principle of "It Just Works", customers were rightly angry at the company – especially when it was discovered that they also broke accessibility.

Sonos initially downplayed complaints, but CEO Patrick Spence then sent an email to customers apologizing and providing a timeline for repairs, leading to seven promises being made.

However, customers were not satisfied and demanded Spencer's firing.

The Sonos CEO, Patrick Spence, Leaves His Post

Bloomberg reports that customers have now gotten what they wanted.

The director general of Sonos, Patrick Spence, quits his post after eight years in office, a move following a failed app update that disappointed customers and slowed growth.

The technology audio company named Tom Conrad, board member and former executive at Snap Inc. and the music streaming service Pandora, current interim president.

Companies sometimes create lies to mask what really happened, with periods of transition and role changes, but there was no attempt like this here. Spence left immediately, and Conrad did not hide the reason for it.

When it doesn't work, our customers step out of time and have the right to feel that we let them down," said Conrad on Sonos user experience in an email to employees. "I think we can all agree that this year we disappointed too many people.

Conrad was one of the creators of the music service Pandora and a former CEO at Snap. More recently, he led the product for the failed video streaming app Quibi. A search is underway for a permanent replacement.

Sonos previously laid off around 100 employees due to a 13% drop in its stock price since the launch of the new app.
