Meta Quest hair seen as popular Christmas gifts with the app that rises to the top of the App Store

The AR and VR headset line from Meta Quest seems to be a very popular Christmas gift this year, with the companion Meta Horizon reaching the top of the App Store in the US region and worldwide. The increase in popularity is probably stimulated by the introduction of the Meta Quest 3S, an economical but powerful model priced at $299.

The Amazon Alexa app has also climbed to the free app charts, while the Echo speakers continue to be popular gift ideas. The AirPods and Apple Watch were probably among the most opened gifts this Christmas, but the App Store does not offer any information on the popularity of its own products...

This is because the AirPods do not have an accompanying application like that, with their functionality built directly into the operating system. Instead, the Apple Watch has an Apple Watch app on the phone, which is installed by default and not included in the App Store graphs or trend metrics.

Visibility on Vision Pro is somewhat lacking for the same reasons, even though one would not expect a $3,500 headset device from Apple to be an ideal gift for most families. In contrast, the Meta Quest line is relatively economical and accessible to all ages, with a library of fun games to play together as a family on Christmas day.

It has been noted that Apple is exploring a collaboration with Sony to add PSVR controller support to Vision Pro, in an effort to attract more VR games to its visionOS platform. However, consumer demand may remain low until significantly cheaper versions of 3D glasses are available on the market.

Of course, Apple does not depend on the Vision Pro for its financial success. Apple will officially announce its Christmas sales during its quarterly earnings call in January. It is expected that a combination of iPhone, iPad, AirPods, Apple Watch, and Mac sales will result in revenue in the billions of dollars for the company.
