A new survey of game developers shows a significant interest in the Vision Pro for games, with a large growth expected from soon-to-be-realized games based on visionOS. Here are the details.

The game developer survey reveals plans for new visionOS-based games.

As published by GamesBeat, a recent Game Developers Conference survey aimed to measure the engagement of developers with Apple's new spatial computing platform.

The data indicates an imminent significant increase. Here is what it says:

Even though only 8% of VR/AR game developers are currently creating games for the Apple Vision OS, the platform seems to be growing. Almost a fifth (18%) of those interviewed say their next games will be on the platform, and a quarter have interest in Apple's intended VR.

These three data points are interesting in their own right for different reasons.

The first surprising aspect is that 8% of game developers are currently working on a visionOS project. We were not very impressed with their efforts so far, given that the options for games on Vision Pro have been rare until now. This number is encouraging to hear.

The second point is that 18% of those interviewed confirmed that their next game will be on Vision Pro, showing how much we should expect a strong increase in the near term.

The final question is particularly relevant when comparing visionOS interests with other platforms.

Notably, 26% of respondents expressed high interest as game developers in visionOS, while only 25% have the same interest in PlayStation VR2—a platform that might be ready to support Apple's efforts with Vision Pro.

The survey involved a total of more than 3,000 game developers, a significant group offering a solid perspective on what creatives in the gaming community are thinking about.
