Microsoft Edge ora blocca lo scarico di software falso.

Microsoft is releasing an early version of a new feature for its Edge browser that will help block scareware. This feature is designed to protect users from tech support fraud, which has become increasingly common and causes people to lose money.
As online fraud increases across various platforms, it's important to take measures to stay safe. Microsoft data shows that blocked frauds by Edge have increased five times in 2024 compared to three years ago, indicating that the danger is growing. Currently, Edge uses Microsoft Defender SmartScreen to detect and block known frauds.
However, since phishing changes so quickly, a stronger method is needed to protect users before these phishing are recognized and blocked by SmartScreen. One type of particularly difficult phishing is scareware. It tricks users into believing their computer is infected and pushes them to contact fake technical support services. The new scareware block is designed to help fight against these tactics.
The unexpected malware blocker works directly on your computer and controls the full screen web pages. It compares what it sees with a list of known frauds without sending any online images, keeping your information private. If it detects a potentially harmful page, it exits fullscreen mode, blocks any annoying sounds, and warns you with an alert and preview of the page.
Microsoft does not seem to extend this feature to their email program Outlook because I used it from my child (when it was Hotmail) and have only seen an increase in spam and malicious intent. However, Edge is a priority for Microsoft, while Chrome continues to dominate, so helping with malicious intent is a way to distinguish itself.
Users can also help improve the scary software blocker by reporting harmful sites. This way, they contribute to improving the detection system for all users. This feature is currently in preview mode for Windows users who use the Edge browser.
