The Indonesian government has stated that it expects its iPhone 16 flag to be raised "within one or two weeks," but it has not explained the reason for this.

The country's minister of investment made a rather strangely formulated and partially contradictory comment, suggesting that an agreement was about to be concluded...

So far, the story

Populous countries' governments are becoming increasingly savvy in their search for favors to give Apple access to their markets, instead requesting investments within their own country.

Indonesia started with a relatively modest request from Apple to invest $109 million in a developer academy there, with additional production costs of $10 million. However, when this target was not fully achieved, the government increased its request dramatically. It banned the sale of the iPhone 16 and requested an even more significant investment.

Apple initially offered $100 million, but the government said it was not enough. Then it declared that it wanted billions of dollars in production investments in the country. Last week, we heard that Apple had agreed to this, and subsequently it was revealed that it would be large-scale AirTag production.

However, the Indonesian government strangely refused this offer, saying that only iPhone component production would be counted.

The iPhone 16 block could last from one to two weeks.

Bloomberg Today presents an interview with Indonesia's minister of investment, Rosan Roeslani, who states that the state expects the matter to be resolved very soon.

The sovereign believes that this problem will be resolved very soon," said Roeslani during an interview with Bloomberg Television in Davos on Tuesday. "I hope it can be resolved within one or two weeks.

However, no explanation has been provided for this optimism. Instead, Roeslani made only a vague statement:

Their advisors may be counting it differently," said Roeslani, referring to local content requirements. "Now they have found a solution to it, so I hope they accept the difference so we can sell iPhone 16 in Indonesia.

It now seems that they find a solution", suggesting that Apple has made a new offer, while "I hope they accept the differences."

It is clear that the issue will be resolved, as both parties need this to happen. However, we currently do not know how this will unfold.
