The AirTag was a long-standing excellent option for tracking vehicles. And, recently, we heard about the news that the Colorado Police Department is distributing them for free to prevent car thefts.

AirTags come with an automatic sticker that warns potential criminals.

CBS COLORADO shared an article from their YouTube channel yesterday (via AppleInsider) about the recent AirTag distribution in Arvada, Colorado.

The police are distributing free AirTags and Tile trackers to community members to reduce the number of car thefts. This is the first time such a gift has been given out, and another one is planned.

The important part of the gift is the warning sticker that can be attached to vehicles.

"This sticker says 'Tracker Installed,' and it includes a declaration that police can track the vehicle even if it's stolen."

Of course, this requires the owner of the AirTag to share their location with authorities. There are no restrictions on giving the police special tracking rights for these gifts.

However, in case of theft, AirTags can still help the police track the stolen vehicle.

"It would be interesting to see if there's an increase in awareness about car thefts in the Arvada area. If so, it's likely that the AirTag gift will become more common."

Should free AirTags be provided for vehicles? Why or why not? Please let us know in the comments.
