AMD has already used 3D V-Cache several times to improve CPU game performance. However, what will happen if AMD adds 3D V-Cache to its most excellent Ryzen 9000 series CPU? The answer is Ryzen 9 9900X3D and 9950X3D.

AMD announced the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D CPUs at its CES 2025 keynote. These chips incorporate everything beyond imagination into the AMD Ryzen series x86 CPU design. They are not the first 9000 series processors to gain 3D V-Cache – that honor belongs to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. However, these chips each have 12 cores and an astonishing 16 cores, making them peak CPUs for general use as well as games and creative purposes. AMD claims that they are the best gaming/creative CPUs you can buy as long as you pay for them.

AMD's graph shows that Ryzen 9 9950X3D has an 8% advantage over the previous generation Ryzen 9 7950X3D in games and a 13% speedup in content creation. When compared to Intel products, AMD claims it has a 20% advantage over the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K. Of course, these figures are based on AMD's own graphs, so caution is always necessary. However, if they are true, it means that the trick of 3D V-Cache is still functioning across multiple generations. It may be worth for Intel to re-evaluate such technology.

These could be considered the best consumer CPUs we can get until AMD's next generation arrives. If you were waiting for the release of the 3D V-Cache version Ryzen chips, it might be optimal to purchase them at this time. The price information for these chips is not yet available, but they may be slightly higher than non-3D-V Cache versions. They are scheduled to be sold in stores by March 2025, so I expect more detailed information as the release date approaches.
