Android 16の第二版が発表されました

Google is accelerating the release of its new Android version. The second preview of Android 16 has arrived, and the final version is scheduled for release in mid-2025.

Google released the second development preview version of Android 16 almost a month after the final version of Android 15, which was launched in September. The planned timeline remains unchanged—mainly completed 'platform stability' versions are expected to be finalized by the beginning of Q1 2025, followed by final updates after 'several months' of testing.

Google announced in a blog post: "This preview is for the major release of Android scheduled for Q2 2025. Additionally, another release planned for Q4 2025 will include new developer APIs. The major release in 2025 is the only one that could potentially affect your app due to intended behavioral changes. Minor releases in Q4 2025 will include feature updates, optimizations, and bug fixes, but they will not include behavioral changes that could impact your app."

App developers can try Developer Preview 2 by flashing the system image onto supported Pixel devices or using the new system image with the Android Studio SDK device emulator. This feature is still in an experimental state, so other users should not try it. Compared to Android 15, there are few noticeable improvements.

Google is releasing new features independently of Android OS version number upgrades. Last month, the company announced improvements to the Find My Device tracking network. In the latest Feature Drop for Pixel devices, improvements in HDR photography and the addition of Gemini Nano have been made.
