The Airport router of the iPhone may not revive, but don't give up immediately.

The Power On newsletter of the Mercury Group reports that Apple is not developing a new version of the AirPort wireless router. However, they are likely to develop something else that could potentially function as a wireless access point, so there's no need to immediately lose hope.

Last month, I received new information about Apple's self-developed wireless communication chip 'Proxima'. This chip is planned for use in home-related products such as Apple TV and HomePod. It is also scheduled for introduction into iPhone 17 and Mac models at a later date.

The interesting thing about this new chip is that its advancedness allows Apple to choose whether or not to turn it into a wireless router.

The Proxima chip has the technology required, theoretically, to convert home devices (such as Apple TV boxes and HomePods) into wireless access points. Google has previously released such products. This includes hybrid Wi-Fi routers and smart speakers.

Gallman notes that these future Apple TV and HomePod wireless functions may not be worth paying attention to if Apple does not choose to enable the wireless access point function.

Whether it is possible or not, knowing that it is possible is enjoyable. If Apple had wanted it, we could have had another Apple-designed wireless access point like AirPort Express in our lives. Many people dream of this, and especially after a long time since the old AirPort lineup. Apple released its last AirPort device in 2013.
