Analysts say Apple's artificial intelligence won't help sell iPhones.

Apple introduced its own AI toolset, Apple Intelligence, last year. All of these are processed on devices, so Apple Intelligence requires the latest hardware like iPhone 15 Pro and later models. Analyst Min Chi Kuo notes that the requirements for Apple Intelligence do not themselves increase iPhone sales.

Users Who Don't Buy New iPhones Due to Apple's Intelligence

The number of iPhone sales has not increased. According to supply chain information, most iPhone users are not interested in purchasing new models solely based on AI features. A recent SellCell survey found that most users believe they have missed out on the value of Apple Intelligence.

Analysts note that Apple could not sustain its "initial frenzy" even after announcing Apple Intelligence at WWDC 2024, citing competitors' rapid progress in subsequent months. Kuo believes other AI platforms (such as OpenAI's ChatGPT) enjoy more benefits due to their cloud-based nature, while Apple Intelligence relies solely on hardware processing.

Apple faces multiple structural challenges in promoting AI within its devices. For example, after the debut of Apple Intelligence at WWDC 2024, its appeal declined significantly compared to cloud-based AI services and has rapidly grown over the past few months," Kuo said. Analysts also added that there is no evidence showing that Apple Intelligence can generate profits from hardware replacement cycles.

Apple is gradually releasing features of Apple Intelligence. Initially, the company introduced a writing tool and summarization feature in iOS 18.1. Then, in iOS 18.2, Genmoji, Image Playgrounds, and ChatGPT integration were added. The highly anticipated more advanced Siri with screen recognition capabilities is scheduled to arrive by April.

Another factor affecting interest in Apple's Intelligence is its usability. While hardware requirements are necessary, Apple's AI features are currently unavailable in languages other than Japanese. The company plans to introduce additional language support later this year.

Despite this, Apple is promoting the latest hardware using Apple Intelligence. Many ads for the iPhone 16 and M4 Mac emphasize features like Genmoji and text summarization.
