Apple has made several improvements to its web-based Apple Maps beta. The latest update includes the addition of the Look Around feature, allowing users to view a 360-degree perspective of specific locations, similar to Google Street View.

Apple added this functionality as a limited beta version in June, and now it is available on web browsers for Windows PCs. According to map tracking sites, the Look Around feature was reportedly added around December 11, 2024.

Look Around provides street-level views of selected areas but is currently only available in certain countries: the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and a few other nations. For more information on where this feature is available, please check Apple's website. While it performs well, web-based Look Around may have slight differences from versions on iOS and macOS. It does not provide the same 3D visual effect when not in motion, but these effects appear when navigating.

The web app for Apple Maps is still in the public beta phase, which comes with some limitations. Public transportation maps and 3D building models are not yet available. Additionally, users cannot access personal locations or custom guides without logging in with an Apple ID. Despite these restrictions, the beta version provides basic features such as exploring maps, searching for businesses, obtaining directions, and finding guides.

You can try Apple Maps on the web by accessing beta.maps.apple.com from Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge. However, it did not work in Chrome for me. When tested on an old website, it performed noticeably faster than Google Maps. The image quality may be slightly better as well, but this could be due to the fact that it didn't take long to load new areas.

Apple plans to continue developing the web app and expects additional features in future updates. They also plan to support additional platforms and languages. While the web version of Apple Maps is not yet fully developed compared to mobile and desktop apps, it is clearly evolving.
