This fall, Apple introduced a new password management solution called the "Password" app as a response to the growing need for secure password management. With important features for macOS, it made getting started very easy.

Evolution from Third-Party Password Managers

Apple Passwords caters to a wide range of users. Some users may be complete beginners to password management tools, while others may already be using services like 1Password or LastPass. This is a group of experienced users who have considered important features for a password app on macOS. For users who already have existing passwords and login information, there is no significant reason for most people to sign up for Apple Passwords from the start. Apple made it easy to move data.

Apple Passwords for Easy Login Integration

Apple's password app allows you to easily replace an existing password manager.
First, you need to export passwords and login information from the apps you are already using. This is a common feature in third-party password managers. Access your password manager and find the option to export data as a CSV file. Next, prepare to switch. If you are using a Mac with macOS Sequoia, follow these steps.
Click File ⇾ Import Passwords from File in the menu bar of the Password app. Select the previously exported CSV file and click Import.

For security reasons, it is recommended to delete the CSV file.

Exporting data from an old password manager is still possible, but you can continue to use it. The data will remain as it was before. However, now you can try out Apple's new password app without having to deal with existing login information. You can easily test Apple's solution and replace third-party apps with a unified solution.

Passwords Sync Across All Apple Devices

Unfortunately, the Password app for Mac is the only version that supports password import.

However, as long as you have a Mac, this process only needs to be done once. After that, all login information will sync to the Password app on your iPhone, iPad, and other Apple devices.
