An alpha version of the Debian 13 'Trixie' installer has been released. It supports Linux 6.12 LTS and RISC-V64 performance.

The Debian Project has announced the release of the first alpha version of the Debian GNU/Linux 13 "Trixie" operating system installer, which will be released next year.

“Work on the Debian Trixie series began a few months ago, but an official installer did not exist until now. This week, the first alpha version of the Debian 13 Installer was made public, aimed at early adopters and Linux/Debian enthusiasts to test new features and improvements.”

The Debian 13 "Trixie" installer supports the latest Linux 6.12 LTS kernel series, which may become the default kernel in the final release. It also introduces various hardware improvements, starting with support for the RISCV64 architecture.

In the alpha version of the Debian Trixie installer, ARMel and i386 architectures, which are still archived, have been discontinued. The MIPSel architecture, which was removed from the archive last year, has also been discontinued.

Other important changes include the addition of a renewed screen for creating the root user and the first user, as well as several new recipes for small disks that include improvements to automatic partitioning (such as calculating swap size).

“The boot screen in this Debian Trixie installer alpha version has not been updated, but a new default Ceratopsian theme created by Elise Couper is making its debut in the installer and can be seen everywhere, including wallpapers, lock screens, and login screens.”
