The source with a mixed record is claiming that this year's iPhone SE received the new name 'iPhone 16E' to reflect its updated design.

This year, it is expected that the budget model will receive the largest update, eliminating the large chin with a home button and transitioning to a modern form factor based on the iPhone 14.

iPhone SE

The iPhone SE was designed to be an entry point into Apple's ecosystem at a lower price. The first model released in 2016 was based on the iPhone 5s, featuring a classic design that has stood the test of time.

While some people opted for a downgrade from flagship iPhones due to the focus on affordability, it was because they preferred either the compact size or rounded edges (at that time, in the stage of Apple's curved corners).

The 2020 model was based on the last flagship phone with a home button, the iPhone 8. The 2022 version was also a very minor update and is still being sold. However, despite Apple changing the design language since the iPhone X over seven years ago, the iPhone SE 3 still appears quite outdated.

iPhone SE 4, or iPhone 16E

This year's model will change that. It plans to provide a modern and recent flagship-like design based on the iPhone 14, with a Dynamic Island instead of a notch but looking completely different from the previous model.

Leica Maginoti suggested that there is a possibility of the new design being called 'iPhone 16E', which could be styled as 'iPhone 16 🄴'.

The new iPhone to be announced by Apple in 2025 is expected to be called 'iPhone 16E' rather than 'iPhone SE4'. The design will resemble the iPhone 14, featuring an OLED display and action buttons. Available colors are white and black.

Maginoti correctly identified the desert titanium color of the iPhone 16 Pro and the vertical camera layout of the base model iPhone 16. However, it was later reported by other sources that the same content had been reported.

However, they were incorrect about other things. For example, the magnetic tip for swapping with other iPhones and Apple Pencil colors.

The design is naturally widely reported at this point and is considered basic elements. The displayed colors are simply reflecting existing models (the PRODUCT(RED) version also exists).

Indeed, such a large update should reflect its new name. However, branding older designs of the iPhone 16 might cause confusion, especially after other models have been released. For now, this remains quite questionable.
