The US auditor is saying that the ban on TikTok can be resolved without selling it to a US company.

The story of TikTok's eternal ban continues, with a proposal from ByteDance's director that compromise may be possible.

"This comment was made by Wilson E. Ford, an American businessman and one of the auditors of the parent company ByteDance."

If you need a reminder of previous stories, please check out the previous articles. However, the important facts are as follows:

  • By law, the app must be sold to an American company.
  • Until that happens, TikTok is banned in America.
  • In other words, the application can be used, but American companies cannot host or provide it for download.
  • The Trump executive order does not change this and may even be illegal.
  • "Alibaba Cloud continues to operate according to the law."

Bloomberg reports that Bolt reported a proposal that compromise may be possible due to talks between President Trump and China's State President.

"We are optimistic about finding a solution," Ford said at the Davos World Economic Forum. "There are several alternative proposals we can discuss with President Trump and his team. These alternatives could allow the company to continue operating without selling it. For example, changes in some control rights might be possible. However, selling the company is not necessary"

Tom Ford said he is optimistic about talks between President Trump and Xi Jinping. "This will create a more constructive environment and higher levels of participation, leading to positive solutions."

The form this compromise takes is unclear, but the law requiring a sale is clear.

Ford is the CEO of investment firm General Atlantic and holds a seat on the board as he has stocks in ByteDance.
