Today, rumors suggest that the camera app may undergo a dramatic overhaul as part of iOS 19. In a YouTube video, John Prosser revealed that the new camera app for iOS 19 embodies a "design philosophy from visionOS."

iOS 19 Camera App

Prosser has seen the newly redesigned camera app in action on iOS 19 but cannot share the video due to source protection. Instead, he has created an entirely new version to show us what the revamped look might be like.

You can view Prosser's complete video on the new iOS 19 camera app design below. In the video, Apple is shown consolidating controls at the bottom of the interface into two toggles: "Photo" and "Video." Within each menu, different modes can be switched, and settings such as exposure adjustment can also be changed.

At the top of the interface, quick access to features like Live Photo and Flash is available, along with options to set resolution and frame rate. There is also a dedicated button to jump straight to the photo library.

The reason this redesign appeals to me is that the camera's viewfinder takes up a large portion of the visual interface. Currently, the camera app has too many controls and settings that invade the process of taking photos and recording videos. While quick access to these controls is necessary, this new iOS 19 design suggests it is designed to make the most frequently used settings easily accessible while also removing some clutter.

This suspicious leak design for iOS 19 appears to be inspired by visionOS and some of the transparent design paradigms introduced with Apple Vision Pro. It remains unclear whether this design language will spread to other parts of iOS 19.

Last year, rumors emerged about a new design for iOS 18 that was inspired by visionOS but did not materialize.

I think it's prudent to be cautious about this rumor. Apple plans to announce iOS 19 in five months from now, so there is still plenty of time. Additionally, it's possible that Apple does not intend to implement this design at all.
