Microsoft released a new Windows 11 Insiders Preview Build to the Dev Channel, introducing real-time translation and live captions on many devices. The feature now supports devices with AMD and Intel processors, not just Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs. Real-time translation is available in up to 44 languages into English, while live captions work with live video calls, recordings, and streaming content. However, several issues have been reported with this update, including incorrect display of the build version after a PC reset, problems with the recall feature, and crashes when switching languages during initial use or while playing audio or with the microphone on. Users with AMD and Intel-based Copilot+ PCs are advised to update their drivers through Windows Update or download them directly from the AMD and Intel websites.

The live caption feature supports translation of up to 44 languages into English and works with live video calls, recordings, and streaming content. The focus of this rollout is on AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs with English set as the primary language. For Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs, real-time translation into Simplified Chinese and other languages such as Arabic, German, Spanish, and French are supported.

This update aims to improve real-time translation, particularly for devices with Snapdragons. Apart from these updates, this build is very similar to the one released last week. Microsoft is still experimenting with pushing AI functionality into PCs, and some PCs are being built considering Copilot.

Several issues have been reported with this update. These suggest that Microsoft may resolve them in future updates. One issue is an incorrect display of the build version after a PC reset, which should not affect future updates. Problems with the recall feature, such as binary cache issues and incorrect snapshot save messages, are also expected to be resolved in future updates.

Microsoft recommends updating the Microsoft 365 app for users to get the best functionality from the Recall feature. Exiting the Recall entirely is another excellent option, which may be the best choice until issues and bugs are fixed.

The click-to-run feature has issues such as non-uniform highlighting in extended monitor mode and occasional additional context usage from Phi Silica. Live captions and real-time translation may crash occasionally when switching languages during initial use or while playing audio or with the microphone on.

To ensure these new features work correctly, users with AMD and Intel-based Copilot+ PCs should update their drivers through Windows Update. Enabling the "Get the latest updates as soon as possible" option in Windows Update is a good idea. Alternatively, they can download drivers directly from the AMD and Intel websites.
