Neflix announced that it will increase the prices of its subscription plans in the United States, Canada, Portugal, and Argentina. All plans will be subject to changes, and options for paid and ad-free viewing will also be included.

According to recent revenue reports, the basic plan with ads is increasing from $6.99 to $7.99 per month, while the standard plan without ads is increasing from $15.49 to $17.99 per month, and the premium ad-free plan is increasing from $22.99 to $24.99 per month. Netflix informs users who receive subscriptions about when these changes will take effect via email.

Amazon Prime charges $14.99, Disney charges $15.99, and Harrods without ads charges $18.99. Netflix is significantly more expensive than the most expensive streaming plans. Currently, its legitimacy feels strong with the existence of major dramas like "You and Scud Game," anime, popular movies, etc. It feels like a premium service, but if you have T-Mobile, the company will bear part of the cost for Netflix.

Netflix is set to increase fees again in 2024, following the previous increase in October. This will be the first time a fee increase occurs with an ad-supported plan, which began in 2022. The company explained that these fee changes are due to investing in programming and providing better value to subscribers.

Despite recent fee increases, Netflix has observed record subscription growth. It gained 19 million new subscriptions in one quarter, pushing the total worldwide number above 300 million. This is the largest subscription increase the company has experienced so far.

The company stated in a profit outlook call that despite past success, there are many possibilities for future growth. They mentioned that Netflix operates in countries where it accounts for only a tiny fraction of overall TV viewing time—around 10%. This is quite significant. If Netflix feels the recent price increases were unjustified, it would be relatively easy for companies with similar market shares to feel the same way.
