According to Nintendo's latest earnings report, sales of the Nintendo Switch console and games have not reached the planned levels. Therefore, Nintendo has revised its sales forecast for the original Switch downwards by 1.5 million units, aiming to sell 11 million units in the future. While a decline in sales is expected due to the release of the Switch 2 this year, it's surprising that Nintendo didn't anticipate such a significant decrease.

The Nintendo Switch has already sold over 150 million units, making it one of the best-selling consoles of all time, approaching the record of 160 million units set by the PlayStation 2. According to the financial meeting, Nintendo believes that the release of the Switch 2 in 2025 will affect current sales, but they don't believe there is a significant impact on customers holding back purchases.

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa stated that the Switch is in its eighth year and performing well. He also added that the company intends to continue supporting the original Switch as long as users desire. This means it's highly likely that Nintendo won't change the price of the original Switch even after the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo rarely lowers the prices of hardware or games - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, a remake of the Wii U version (released about 11 years ago), is still sold for $59.99 on the official Nintendo website. It's expected that they will continue manufacturing the original Switch as long as there is demand and strive to maximize profits. Therefore, don't expect a significant price reduction for the previous generation console.

There is no information available about the Switch 2 Lite. This was considered as a more affordable option. So, at this point, the original Switch might be sold as a cheaper alternative. However, a substantial price drop is not anticipated. The Switch is likely to maintain its current price, with the Switch 2 being priced higher, or the Switch's price slightly decreasing while the Switch 2 remains at its original price.
