NVIDIA GeForce NOW will be released soon for Meta Quest, Vision Pro, and Pico headsets.
NVIDIA announced that GeForce NOW cloud gaming service will run on virtual and mixed reality headsets, including Apple Vision Pro. They are planning to support the update v2.0.70 of GeForce NOW next month which includes support for Apple's Vision Pro spatial computer, Meta's latest Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets, and Pico's virtual and mixed reality devices. NVIDIA is catching up with Microsoft's Xbox Cloud Gaming service, already available on Quest devices. GeForce NOW is the first gaming streaming service to be officially available on Apple's Vision Pro. Cloud games are executed in the cloud by using an internet connection and a server with high-performance hardware, transferring video streams for playback on connected clients. This allows even devices without powerful GPUs to run the latest games, but network latency can become an issue in some networks and regions. NVIDIA announced that GeForce NOW will support "gamepad-compatible titles" on headsets. Vision Pro uses eye tracking and gesture control. However, it does not come with a motion controller. It is easy to pair PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo game controllers with the headset. According to Mark Gurman, Bloomberg reports that Vision Pro may soon be compatible with real VR gaming controllers like Sony's PlayStation VR2. Using GeForce NOW on Vision Pro, Quest, and Pico devices confirms that "all NVIDIA technologies (including ray tracing and NVIDIA DLSS)" are included. Performance and Ultimate subscription members can access RTX and DLSS technology in supported games for an even better visual experience. NVIDIA announced that GeForce NOW subscribers can play cloud games after the update is applied by visiting the GeForce NOW website using a supported browser. For Vision Pro owners, this means streaming games at a virtual screen of 100 feet on a special visionOS environment. GeForce NOW is available on other Apple devices like iPhone and iPad through mobile Safari. However, the installation experience is very unsatisfactory. Each cloud game must first be added to the library as a Progressive Web App (PWA). Interestingly, NVIDIA has not yet released a native GeForce NOW app for Apple's platform, but now users can use gaming streaming apps in the App Store. NVIDIA offers multiple GeForce NOW subscription plans at different graphics quality levels. The Performance tier provides 8 virtual CPUs, GeForce RTX graphics at 1440p resolution, and sessions up to 6 hours for $10 per month or $50 for 6 months. On the highest level of the Ultimate tier ($20 per month or $100 for 6 months), the number of virtual CPUs is doubled, GeForce RTX 4080 graphics at 4K resolution are included, and session time is extended to 8 hours with support for DLSS 3, NVIDIA Reflex, and Cloud G-Sync. Subscriptions also provide other benefits such as priority queuing and access to more games. There is also a free tier that includes ads before subscribing to try the service.
