OpenZFS 2.3 has been released today, known as the latest version of an open-source advanced file system and volume manager for Linux and FreeBSD systems. This new version supports the latest kernel and introduces new features.

OpenZFS 2.3 targets Linux kernels 4.18 and above that support up to the latest Linux 6.12 LTS, allowing the addition of new devices to existing RAIDZ pools to increase storage capacity without downtime, and introducing new functionality.

This release includes significant performance upgrades to the original OpenZFS duplicate removal function, supporting a maximum file name and directory name length of 1023 characters, and adding cross-compilation support for kernel modules. Additionally, it adds support for CentOS Stream 10 and FreeBSD 14.2 operating systems.

OpenZFS 2.3 supports read/write ARC bypass scenarios where cache devices like NVMe devices could degrade performance, provides JSON output options for the most commonly used commands, and includes regular bug fixes to address important issues reported by users in previous versions.

Please check the release notes on the project's GitHub page for more details. You can also download the source tarball from the same location and compile it from source if that is not your preference. If you prefer, you will have to wait until the new OpenZFS version arrives in your favorite distribution's stable software repository.
