Camera operation simplification on iPhone 16: Benefits include faster shooting and reduced errors.

I absolutely love the new camera control button on the iPhone 16, but the default settings are not suitable for me. By default, it feels like it takes too long to take a photo and could be prone to accidents. Fortunately, Apple provides fine-grained control with Camera Control, and there's no issue with the toggles being dispersed in the Settings app.
「Cameraを即座に起動」
In the past, I used an iPhone with a dedicated camera button. A few years ago, I was using the iPhone 11 Pro Smart Battery Case and Camera Launcher. Recently, I've been assigning the Action Button on my iPhone 15 Pro to open the camera.
The iPhone 16 introduces the most specialized shutter button by combining Camera Control, but unlike the other two experiences, it doesn't function by default. This is because Camera Control requires three clicks: one to wake up the display from sleep and launch the camera, another to take a photo, and a third to perform an action.
After the iPhone 16 was released, an option to change this feature through a software update was added. Previously, we used the Action Button to open the camera and skip clicks.
"The first thing to change is to turn off 'Screen must be on' under Settings > Display & Brightness > Camera Control. Voila! Now it works like an old smart battery case with the action button."
カメラコントロールの簡素化
Lately, I've been trying to use the camera control without pressure input. It feels ready to take photos whenever my fingers are almost always on the camera control. However, it's too sensitive, and I accidentally press and swipe with pressure input, losing control of the camera. It's interesting how disabling the pressure input as an input method.
First, go to Settings > Camera > Camera Control > Accessibility and find the 'Light-Press' toggle under 'CONTROLS GESTURE'. I turned on the swipe function and disabled the 'Light-Press' feature.
However, I like the option to lock focus and exposure with a light press. Technically, according to the description in the settings, 'Light Press and Hold' calls up the 'Lock Focus and Exposure' option. This means you can turn on/off the lock for focus and exposure independently from the 'Light-Press' gesture.
「どうですか?」
After adjusting these two settings, it took less time to launch the camera and take a photo. I could do it once by pressing even if the screen was off (it looked on). And with swipe gestures enabled, you can access the micro-menu with a short press. However, navigating through the micro-menu for adjusting camera settings is too cumbersome. The charm of doing everything with one finger might be great, but I often hold my iPhone sideways with both hands to stabilize the shutter while composing the frame.
Every time I try using the camera control, I might disable focus and exposure locking. Tapping and holding a part of the viewfinder is more conscious and safer.
So, what is the camera control for me? It's even better! You can launch the camera and take photos with an action button too, but if you want to hold your iPhone sideways with the camera sensor at the top, it's completely opposite to where the shutter button should be.
If you really want a simple camera control, you can disable swipe functionality in the same accessibility section as pressing brightness. This will give you a truly simple shutter button, allowing you to control shooting settings like on previous iPhones.
