Apple has recently introduced a new Share Item Location feature to help track AirTags and Apple devices, and at the time, announced partnerships with over 15 airlines. These airlines accept links to track lost luggage. United Airlines integrated this feature into their mobile app, making it easy for customers to add links.

AirTags are the best friend of travelers for long trips

Apple users have long been using AirTags in their luggage. Knowing that their luggage arrives with the flight reassures them, and if their luggage is lost, it becomes very helpful in finding it. AirTags expose the questionable practices of airlines.
    • Magicians used an AirTag and a second passport to, after United Airlines erased his bag,
AirTag completes United's incompetence, functioning when the checked bag is marked as "lost".
  • After being assigned as not found by the airline, AirTag helped a couple's lost wallet fly to 35 cities
  • AirTag revealed a couple who donated a lost wallet to a charity without the airline's introduction.

Sharing the location of an item is very convenient for this.

iOS 18.2 introduced a feature to share the location of an item. From the name of the feature, it can be inferred that it is a feature to share items being tracked by Find My (such as iPhones or bags with AirTags) and allow airlines to track these items as well. Apple stated that these links will be accepted by over 15 airlines.
In the coming months, 15 airlines serving millions of people around the world—Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Eurowings, Iberia, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, Turkish Airlines, United, Virgin Atlantic, and Vueling—will accept Find My item locations as part of their customer service processes to identify the location of lost or delayed luggage. As time goes on, more airlines will be added.

Today, United announced the integration of the new Share Item Location feature for AirTags into their mobile app. This change is expected to provide a significantly improved customer service experience for 1% of customers whose bags arrive late on flights. With the Apple Share Item Location feature available in iOS 18.2, United customers traveling with AirTags or Find My network accessories can privately and safely share the location of their device with the airline's customer service team, allowing them to identify the location if their luggage is mishandled.
If a bag is lost, customers can report a delayed luggage claim in the app and include the link. After that, the customer service agency can check the location and use it to expedite handling. If the bag returns to the customer, the tracking link can be disabled.
