The lineup of Apple's AirPods has become even stronger with the release of AirPods 4. This new model includes many features that were only found in the previous AirPods Pro 2. However, personally, I still think that three core primary functions provide more upgrade value than a more expensive AirPods.

Up to twice better noise cancellation

This means a lot to me. The advanced AirPods 4 model includes ANC (active noise cancellation function), but this is slightly less powerful than what can be found in the AirPods Pro 2.

I used AirPods Pro 2 all day, and ANC was on almost the entire time.

The improved ANC was one of the main reasons I decided to upgrade from the original AirPods Pro to the AirPods Pro 2. And I expect an even more powerful sound isolation experience with the AirPods Pro 3.

When I say that, I don't want to go back to the less suitable ANC function in AirPods 4.

Hearing health features

iOS 18.1 provides three powerful new features focused on hearing health for the AirPods Pro 2:

Based on my test results, I have confirmed that there is almost no hearing loss at this point. Therefore, for me, a hearing device will be an especially important function.

However, if the hearing protection feature is always active, it could help prevent such losses. Additionally, without Apple's tests, I wouldn't have known about my hearing status initially.

But regardless of whether you need or don't need the hearing health features of AirPods Pro 2, they provide a much greater benefit to many users.

Better battery life

The AirPods Pro 2 provides up to 6 hours of listening time after charging. In contrast, the AirPods 4 provide only up to 5 hours.

As you use AirPods more frequently, increased battery life becomes especially useful. I don't often hear a low battery level with the AirPods Pro 2 that I use a lot, but using less battery would likely occur more frequently.

Summary of AirPods Pro 2 features

The additional $80 to get the exclusive Pro features compared to the high-end AirPods 4 at $179 is very happy. If you can buy the AirPods Pro 2 for $189 (currently Amazon's price), then Apple's Pro model no longer needs to be considered.
