Meta officially launches ads on Threads.

Meta officially began advertising tests on its media social network Threads. The company refers to this as a "temporary small test" for several different brands in the US and Japan.

According to a report released in November, Meta had planned to introduce ads to TikTok by early 2025. Today's announcement shows that the company has accurately hit its target timing. Meta's goal is to leverage the fragmented growth of the text-based social network industry to generate revenue on TikTok.

In a post on today's Threads board, Instagram's Adam Mosseri revealed that Meta plans "to thoroughly monitor user feedback before scaling."

We are beginning advertising tests on Threads centered around several brands in the US and Japan. We know how much feedback there is about ads and we will ensure they find relevant and interesting posts on Threads. Before expanding this test more widely, we will closely monitor it. The goal is for Meta's ads on Threads to become as engaging as organic content.

Mosseri did not share additional details on how Meta plans to integrate ads into Threads. Since Instagram is known for its accurate ad implementation, it is expected that the same experience will be extended to Threads.
