iOS 18.3 provides two upgrades to the camera control on the iPhone 16.

iOS 18.3 is expected to be released very soon as an RC beta version today. According to the release notes for the update, this update will bring two upgrades to the camera control button and visual intelligence of iPhone 16.

In iOS 18.3, visual intelligence can perform two new functions.

Apple introduced visual intelligence in the camera control of iPhone 16 and 16 Pro in iOS 18.2.

This feature allows you to open a special AI-based camera mode that interacts with the surrounding world by long-pressing the camera control button.

Now, iOS 18.3 brings two new functions to visual intelligence:

1. If the iPhone recognizes dates on posters or flyers, it can add events to the calendar.
2. And now, visual AI can identify plants and animals.

Apple has previously demonstrated these features, but they were first released in Camera Control.

The increasing number of connections with Apple apps is showing that the purpose of Camera Control is being confirmed.

Currently, vision intelligence relies heavily on ChatGPT and Google for providing a lot of information, but one of the most powerful user experiences is when it provides a connection to Apple apps.

For example, images can be used to retrieve location information from maps.

Adding events to the calendar app easily is a good example of this. And I expect to see many more such integrations over the next few years. This will allow visual intelligence to become a larger asset.

In addition to the camera control upgrade, iOS 18.3 also includes changes to the Intelligent Notifications summary and some bug fixes, including an annoying calculator bug.
