Apple's Messages app has many great features, including recent additions from iOS 18 and Genmoji. But it lacks one very important feature: a tool for tracking unread messages. The new Mac app RPLY aims to solve this problem using artificial intelligence.

RPLY Uses AI to Solve Your Forgotten iMessage Problems

RPLY is a new macOS application that does two main things:

1. Scans all your iMessages and aggregates unread messages into a dedicated center.
2. Then, it drafts AI-generated replies for these messages, which you can send with one click.

Ultimately, it's a very direct and practical tool—one that fulfills many users' key needs for Messages.

Currently, Apple doesn't offer a convenient way for people to remember to reply to text messages.

A common workaround is to mark a thread as unread.

This might work for some, but there's a reason it's not ideal: read messages display the same blue dot as brand new unread messages.

Apple may address this issue at some point, but for now, if you frequently forget to reply and want AI help, RPLY could be your solution.

RPLY was created by Molly Cantillon, whose core concept, as she stated in an interview with TechCrunch, is: "To make texting feel less burdensome while still maintaining genuine connection."

For those who often forget to reply, leaving friends in "delivered" limbo for days, RPLY uses AI to identify unread messages and suggest replies, preventing users from unintentionally disappearing. This AI assistant can automatically respond to messages in your inbox that haven't received a response after more than 24 hours.

If you're concerned about RPLY scanning all your iMessages, you can enable local processing. Be sure to read the privacy policy.

The biggest drawback is: after the free trial period, RPLY costs $30 per month for a subscription.
