Kailan released the new Element 5 hub, supporting Thunderbolt 5.

Today, CalDigit released its first Thunderbolt 5-enabled device — a nine-port, aptly-titled Element 5 Hub. As a successor to the company's existing eight-port Element Hub, the $249 Element 5 boasts four Thunderbolt 5 ports supporting 80Gb/s, along with many other noteworthy features and details. Let's take a closer look.
Some of my favorite devices are AirPods Pro 2, Jeff Benjamin’s favorite wireless headphones; they keep getting better.Ports and Charging
- The Element 5 hub has nine ports, while the original had eight.
- 4 TB5 ports (80 Gb/s)
- Two USB-C ports (10 Gb/s)
- Three USB-A ports (up to 10 Gb/s per port)
- Host device power delivery is 90W.

Displays
- Macs with support for 8K resolution have a maximum resolution of 8K 60Hz.
- macOS dual displays have a maximum resolution of 6K 60Hz. M4 Max supports dual 8K 60Hz.
- macOS dual displays have a maximum refresh rate of dual 4K 240Hz.
The Element 5 hub supports the new bandwidth boost capabilities of Thunderbolt 5, which can allocate up to 120 Gb/s to displays as needed, for example when connecting multiple high refresh rate displays.
On compatible Windows machines equipped with Thunderbolt 5, the Element 5 can support up to three 4K 60Hz displays via a single port. Notably, Macs including the latest M4 models do not support triple-display setups through a single Thunderbolt 5 connection. This is a limitation of macOS computers, and currently no dock or hub can natively support triple-display setups on macOS via a single TB5 connection.

Other Tidbits
CalDigit states that the host device charging always provides up to 90W of power, regardless of how many devices are connected. The Element 5 includes a new 180W power adapter, which is 42% smaller than the previous generation while offering an additional 30W of power.
The Element 5 Hub features 64Gb/s PCIe, double the bandwidth of the previous generation, supporting high-speed storage devices.
Author recommendation: Some of my favorite devices “Whoosh! Screen Cleaner” is Jeff Benjamin’s favorite Apple product screen cleaner.
Although slow, the Thunderbolt 5 ecosystem is gradually taking shape, and the Element 5 looks set to be an ideal hub for those who need to expand their connectivity. In terms of compatibility, of course, the Element 5 is best suited for new M4 Pro and M4 Max Macs equipped with Thunderbolt 5 ports, but it also works with TB4, TB3, and USB-C Macs and iPads.
